I've been wearing Clarks Desert Boots for years. I'm familiar with the quirks. However the quality has taken a dive. I bought these on May 1, 2018 and it's now July 7, 2018. The boots are done. Like, ready for the trash. The soles are completely shot. They have completely worn down. In fact, they showed noticeable wear after just one use. Yes, I walk around in them however I live in the city and that's what people do.

These feel just a little loose on my feet, but no insert I've tried proves as comfortable as the natural shoe, so I'll stick with it. The crepe sole is both a strong point (nice and soft underfoot) and a weakness since it is flexible enough that I can feel pebbles. The suede prefers to stay dry (which is understandable for something called a desert boot), so use preservative if you live in a climate where rain occasionally falls. The sole also blackens from dirt but if you live near a beach, go for a walk in the sand; the abrasion will help clean the shoe's bottom. All in all, I really enjoy these boots, even if they're not five star in the above rating
I have also noticed that the non-removable insole has lots of lumps and inconsistencies. The left one hurts the bottom of my foot around the heel because there is a large bump. The right has a bump in the forefoot area which gives me blisters. As well, even after several wears and significant break in time, these shoes are basically unwearable without moleskin on both heels.
